Dive into the journey of okkul, where passion for unique eyewear and meticulous craftsmanship come together to create more than just sunglasses – they create a statement.

Founders
Zsanett
Zsanett’s obsession with fashion begun in her early twenties when she started her career as a hair stylist. Things escalated quickly cause in 6 months she found herself on photoshoots and working with the youngest and coolest teams in Budapest’s fashion scene.
Her hair stylist career exceeded her young age. She participated in American Crew’s all star challenge in Rome and worked on the highest ranking tv shows in Hungary.
Since Zsanett and Szabolcs’s shared passion is travelling, in 2016 they visited Camden town in London where -for the first time- she saw beautifully handcrafted glasses frames at the General Eyewear store. She even chose a pair for herself, and she is still in love with that frame. After that time, she got the bug, and the frame-making started to occur more and more in her conversations.
In 2020 in the middle of the lockdown, she ordered a jeweller’s saw and a piece of acetate and started drawing and cutting out frames. After that she was fixed on getting all the knowledge which can be gathered about frame-making. The hardest part was, to achieve the best quality which could be achieved in a hand crafting process. Since there is no education in Hungary for this craft, she had to do a lot of research and redoes of the frames. The first frame which was finished was the brynn, it was a bit crooked and uneven at some points, but it was indeed a great achievement which has set okkul on its current path. She still has this first brynn as a reminder that if you decide that you’ll do something, you must try until it you reach your vision.
Zsanett is now designing and manufacturing all okkul frames, doing what she loves best. She is constantly refining all the frames to discharge their true significance through details and definition.

Szabolcs
Szabolcs has been working with brands since his first job as a salesperson. He quickly learned that beautifully made everyday objects, which resonate with the user’s personality or tell a captivating story of craftsmanship, are auxiliaries for a lifetime.
Obiviously life is not just about work, (even if you love what you do) he was also playing in bands, embracing Budapest’s hardcore punk / metal scene alongside. He was always amazed by applied arts, paintings, songs, and photos, which had bold meanings and were presented in such a way. He always got drawn into the stories of these items, captivation vision and timelessness.
His enthusiasm for spectacles started at the excat same spot as Zsanett’s. He started collecting eyewear pieces which were standing out, underlining a look or just as a memorabilia from a travel destination. The collection was slowly building because he was always looking for the pieces which were highest quality and audacious design.
When Zsanett’s ideas turned into real life objects, he gave his full commitment for the project. Researching machines, instructional videos, education and so on. Soon it seemed that Zsani’s passion is something which will turn into a business, Szabolcs was happy to take on the role of sales and distribution. He did this because together they made okkul spectacles along the values he adored so much in these special objects: unmatchable quality, bold meaning, outstanding design and last but not least a great story.
Nowadays he is the one who answers your e-mails and messages, still doing what he loves best, connecting people to captivating everyday objects which are enhancing the wearer’s personality on a whole other level.
The Myth of okkul
The Vision
Okkul is a proudly handcrafted spectacle brand based in Budapest. Born from the enthusiasm for bold, outstanding eyewear, the vision was and will be always the same:
Creating bold pieces that stand out, that enhance the wearer’s personality, expressing their uniqueness through appearance in a way nobody had never seen. Always unbounded from ordinary.
With the vision in mind okkul is made in the highest achievable quality from reusable materials from the EU. All labour, manufacturing and craftsmanship is done in Hungary, including all the supplementary items. All okkul pieces are numbered, emphasizing their rarity.
Okkul couldn’t be made without the caring determination of everyone who works on it. We are fascinated by the talents around us, who are helping to underscore our vision through expertise, visuals and communication.Â
Okkul is and will always be a family-owned business.
The core of the design
Okkul is the essence of whispered secrets, seances and tarot cards. You could find forgotten gods, old idols and symbols in our designs. Sometimes it’s just the name, sometimes it’s an ornament but always has a hidden meaning. Okkul is like the secret societies, binding mystery and power. Always in plain sight but cryptic and private at the same time.
